LowPrim.com releases the Shared Trust Security System

Written by Administrator

PREFACE

In the beginning... there was the security orb... and it was good.

Later developments were made that refined the functionality of such devices.  And it was better.

In late 2006 Travis Lamber and Mera Pixel of the Shelter developed a system called BanLink (slbanlink.com) which provided a networked shared trust ban management system that allowed parcel and sim owners to protect themselves, and with trust, each other.

This system revolutionized parcel and sim security across the grid, and though controversial, was quite effective.

The pros and cons of the system were diverse, however since the system was 'free' to all, it was bound to the philanthropy of those that had created it, and as those individuals left or lost interest in Second Life, eventually doomed to failure.

The last post by Mera in July of 2009 regarding BanLink mentioned new improvements and changes, followed shortly after by the site being taken down.  Several years after the system was brought online, and after much development, the owner of the web-side server that controlled BanLink finally pulled the plug.

Introducing the successor to BanLink -->  The LowPrim Shared Trust Security System!

So What, precisely IS the LowPrim Shared Trust Security System?

  • Networked Security System capable of protecting a single parcel, or an entire region from unwanted individuals.
  • Ability to issue Permanent or Temporary Bans depending on offense of individual.
  • Ability to Share Permanent Bans through Associated Trusts with those who also own the system.
  • Ability to add administrators to your system to allow them to assist you with issuing and maintaining bans.
  • Decentralized Processing means each system owner manages their own ban lists.

What's the differences between the LowPrim system and BanLink?

To be honest, as far as functionality is concerned, not a great deal.  The system works MUCH like the BanLink system of bygone eras.   There are some 'slight' differences, but overall, the end result is the same.

Unlike BanLink, the LowPrim system is not entirely 'free'.   This is a commerical grade security system that will continue to be developed and will operate on an Enterprise Class web server courtesy of Wolfhaven Productions.

It should also be noted that while the original BanLink code was created as an Open Source project under GPL2, none of the original code was utilized to create the LowPrim Shared Trust Security System (even though it was designed to mimic, and hopefully exceed, the functionality of BanLink.)

By acquiring this system, you set yourself on the road to excellent protection for your parcels or entire regions across the entire Second Life Grid.

It should be noted that LowPrim.com is not directly affiliated with Linden Lab in any way.

What will it cost?

The system itself has an initial cost of L$1,500 (about US$6.00).  This includes the first two months of service that allows the system to operate effectively.  To continue the service, system owners will be required to pay L$250 (about US$1.00) approximately every 30 days.

Alternatively, a system owner may purchase a Lifetime license version of the system for a one time payment of L$12,000 (about US$48.00), or by adding the Lifetime license pack at any time after the pay-by-month system has been purchased.  (It should be noted that unlimited license owners receive extended priority support for the system.)

INSTRUCTIONS

These instructions assume that you have some experience with the use and terminoligy associated with objects in Second Life.

To set up your system, please follow these steps:

1) If this is the first time you are setting up a LowPrim Shared Trust Security System, find and rez the LowPrim Shared Trust Security License (License).  The License will communicate with, and register your account with our server system.  You only need to register one time.  The License is single use and no-copy/no-transfer.

2)  Place a LowPrim Shared Trust Security Master (Master) near the landing points of your parcel or region.

The Master devices are capable of detecting up to 64 Avatars simultaneously within 96 meters of its placement point.

(You should try to avoid placing the Master devices within 128 meters of each other.  It is possible for FOUR Master devices to protect the ground of an entire region!)

3) If you have your parcel or region divided into multiple seperate pieces (i.e. they are seperate pieces of land), you may place a LowPrim Shared Trust Security Slave (Slave) on those parcels that are not connected to your main landing point to allow the system to establish a ban on those parcels as long as they are owned by the same person or group as the Master box.

4) Once you have placed your Master and Slave devices on your parcels, if the parcels are owned by a Group instead of an individual, you will need to DEED the Master and Slave devices to that group.

5) Within 5 minutes of the placement of each device, the Master and Slave devices will become 'invisible' so that they do not create an eyesore to your visitors.  The only time the devices will become visible after placement will be if they require an update.

5) Wear a copy of the LowPrim Shared Trust Security HUD (HUD).  The HUD is copy/transfer so that you may distribute them to individuals you wish to make administrators on your system.

6) You may left click on the HUD on your screen at any time for a listing of available commands in local chat.  Some commands are only available to the system owner.

LowPrim.com releases the BiD-nSaNiTy! Board

PDF Print E-mail
Written by LowPrim Monitor

BiD-nSaNiTy! Board

=== [ Welcome to BiD-nSaNiTy! ] ===

The BiD-nSaNiTy! board is a revolution in auction systems in the virtual world of Second Life!

=== [ WHAT THIS IS ] ===

BiD-nSaNiTy! is similar to the popular penny auctions found on many websites around the world.

A penny auction, is a type of All-pay auction in which participants must pay a non-refundable fee to place a small incremental bid. When time expires, the last participant to have placed a bid wins the item and also pays the final bid price. The auctioneer receives income both in the form of the fees collected for each bid and in the form of payment for the winning bid.

=== [ HOW IT WORKS ] ===

  • Participants interested in obtaining the item being auctioned in this board buy bids for L$1 each.
  • Each bid placed is a non-refundable participation fee.
  • For each bid placed on the board, the price of the item goes up by L$1, and the person making the bid is considered the current 'winner' of the item being auctioned..
  • As the bidding continues the clock counts down.
  • When the timer reaches zero, the last person to have bid for the item being auctioned is declared the winner.
  • During the last two minutes of the auction, any time a bid is placed, the timer resets to between 30-120 seconds depending on how many bids have been made. The timer gets faster as bidding continues. (For every 125 bids made the delay timer reset is reduced by 15 seconds. i.e. - it starts at 120 seconds - after 125 bids are made during the final '2 minutes' instead of resetting to 2 minutes it will reset to 105 second, then 90, then 75, and so on.)
  • The winner of the auction has 1 hour to pay the final price of the item in question to receive their merchandise.

=== [ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ] ===

Q. If I don't win the auction do I get my bid money back?

A. No, this is similar to a penny auction - your bid payment is a participation fee.

Q. I won the auction - how do I obtain my prize?

A. Pay the board the final price for the item and your prize will be delivered.

Q. Nobody bid and the timer reached zero... who wins?

A. Nobody bid... nobody wins.

Q. If I am the only bidder and the timer reaches zero and the price is only L$1... who wins.

A. You do!

=== [ NOTES ] ===

LowPrim.com Releases the LowPrim Script Monitor

PDF Print E-mail
Written by LowPrim Monitor

LowPrim Script Monitor

Simulators are designed to handle a certain amount of scripts in real-time. After that limit is reached, every script on the sim begins to slow down and share time slices making the simulator work even harder to keep track of script operations and potentially reducing script efficiency. By keeping track of script counts in use by visitors you can reduce the amount of lag on your simulator.

FEATURES

  • Tracks your visitors script counts
  • Advises highly scripted user of script count with a visual display
  • Avatars with more than 250 scripts are advised to lower their script count or be teleported away!
  • Very useful on sims that allow breedable pets to help keep lag down as well as on Roleplay sims.

You can use multiple sets of the LowPrim Script Monitor on the same sim if they each have a different Security Key word set up for them.

So how does this work?

The script monitor tracks the arrival of visitors and checks their script counts. If their script counts are over certain amounts they will be flagged as follows with an ! marker:

  • < 151 No Marker
  • 151+ Green Marker
  • 201+ Yellow Marker
  • 250+ Red Marker and 3 Minute Warning to reduce script count or be sent away!

Why these numbers?

The average simulator is designed to handle approximately 6,000 scripts efficiently. By keeping the average user at 150 or fewer scripts you will help ensure that your simulator runs smoother and with less lag.

Many prim based objects presently worn by people are equiped with multi-script resizer programs. With current Second Life standards there is absolutely NO reason for these multi-script rezzers to continue to exist since a single script can resize all of the prims in a linked object. Item creators tend toward being lazy in not updating their products (if it isn't broke don't fix it seems to be the prevailing philosophy...) ㋡

Using a script monitor of this nature will help educate users in keeping their script counts lower!

PERMISSIONS

  • Main unit is copy/mod
  • Interdictor is Copy/Mod/Trans (for Deeding!)
  • Monitor Prims are Copy
You can purchase this item on the Second Life Marketplace or at the LowPrim.com store at Wolfhaven Productions
